About Us

Faith Veterinary Service was started in 1948 by Dr. Wayne Sletten and his wife Karen Sletten. In 2005, the business was purchased by Dr. Tammy Winger-Merriman and Mike Merriman. A new facility was built in 2006.

Office Pet

We are a locally-owned business and we believe in reinvesting in our community. We support our local FFA, 4-H, and Faith High School programs and special functions.

Faith Veterinary Service is proud to participate in the Humane Society Spay and Neuter Program.

Our Staff

Dr. Tammy Winger

Kansas State University, 1993; Mixed Animal Specialty

Dr. Tammy Winger, a native of Dodge City, KS, received her Bachelor's in Animal Science in 1989 from Kansas State University and her Doctorate from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. She worked at Southwood Veterinary Clinic, Jamestown, ND after graduation and then for Dr. Dee Heezen at Wessington Springs, SD. In May 1998, she and her husband Mike Merriman moved to Faith, SD where both worked for Dr. Wayne Sletten at Faith Veterinary Service. In 2005, they purchased the practice and built a new facility in 2006. Dr. Winger enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine with special interests in cow-calf production. In her free time, she enjoys fly-fishing, gardening and visiting with family & friends.

Dr. Alice Harty

Iowa State University, 2000; Mixed Animal Specialty

Dr. Alice Harty is proudly from Bancroft, IA where she was raised on a diversified livestock and grain family farm. Dr. Harty received her undergraduate Bachelor's in Animal Science from South Dakota State University in 1997 and graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Currently, she and her husband Tommy Harty reside and ranch close to Milesville, SD where they raise registered appaloosa horses. Additionally, Dr. Harty is the inspecting veterinarian for Lemmon Livestock Auction Market and she provides ambulatory services throughout western SD. When not working, Dr. Harty likes to team rope and drive her team of Appaloosa geldings in parades. She also serves on the Suncatcher Therapeutic Riding Academy Board of Directors and is their attending veterinarian.

Dianna Longbrake

Office Staff and Animal Assistant

Dianna grew up on her parents, Roald & Bonnie Mitchell's, ranch 20 miles south of Dupree, SD. She has worked for Faith Veterinary Service since 2001 in the front office & as a veterinary assistant. Married to Mike Longbrake, they live at Bridger, SD & ranch on the Cheyenne River Breaks raising Angus cattle, horses and three sons: Tate, Kirby & Seth. Two dogs and one spoiled house cat also share their home. While waiting for the horse market to make her rich, Dianna enjoys throwing horseshoes, bass fishing, cooking & working livestock. There are no two days the same, with a lot of new experiences and in the animal health field.

Diane Humble

Office Staff

Diane originates from Dupree, SD and it is her bright & smiling face and voice that greets clients as the main front office secretary. Diane graduated in Business from Western Dakota Vo-Tech in Sturgis, SD. She and her husband Bruce Humble ranched for 20+ years near Mud Butte, SD raising cattle, sheep & horses. Currently, they live near Faith and raise rodeo & ranch horses. They have one son, Blaine, who lives and ranches in Montana. Diane enjoys reading, crafting, attending rodeos and has served on the Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for the past 13 years.

Mike Merriman

Owner and Dog Whisperer

Mike is the Co-Owner, IT Specialist, and CSO (chief shovel operator) at Faith Veterinary Service. He is originally from the western slope of Colorado near Paonia. Mike has worked on ranches and feedlots in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming before being employed by K-State College of Veterinary Medicine Large Animal Department. He enjoys flying his Piper J3 Cub and is involved in wild land fire aviation.

Jamie Spring

Office Staff and Vet Assistant

Jamie was raised in Northern Idaho and attended the University of Idaho where she received a BS in Animal Science & Dairy Science in 2002. Her past work experience includes being a herdsman for a large dairy in southern Idaho and veterinary assistant in a bustling Idaho mixed animal clinic. Her main work interests are cattle reproduction, fresh cow care, and everything involving sheep. Jamie, her husband Lee and their two girls, Emma and Joni ranch near Union Center, raising black commercial cattle and fine-wooled Rambouillet ewes. Jamie is passionate about raising and training Border collie stock dogs as well as hosting a sheep dog training clinic and a sheep dog trial each year.

Faith Vet also offers In-House Coggins (EIA) Testing

We have a Federally approved lab with 2 accredited veterinarians that can perform the test in our lab.
